Background / Personal Connection:
There aren't too many Disney songs more classic than this one. It provided a lively opening to The Mickey Mouse Club television program in the 1950's, and the memorable slowed-down version closed the show. There's a website devoted to the show called Original MMC that has a lot of great information if you want to learn more about it.
Then in 1989 the MMC was rebooted for seven seasons, the later parts of which included the likes of future superstars Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, and Ryan Gosling. The Mickey Mouse March was given a reboot as well -- I'm sure that Walt Disney did at least a few roll overs in the grave when he first heard that one.
I vaguely remember seeing bits and pieces of the original Mickey Mouse Club as a kid on the Disney Channel, and I used to watch the new Mickey Mouse Club all the time (in fact, my sisters attending a taping of it one year when we were in Florida).
Even for those not familiar with the shows, I'd venture to say just about every person has heard this song at some point in their life. It lives on in the Disney theme parks and in the minds of baby boomers everywhere.

The Mickey Mouse Club was an after-school, late afternoon staple for the under-12 age group during the 1950's. Jimmie Dodd was the primary singer, and he made the closing sound like a religious experience.
