Checking In

Now that we're just over a third of the way through the countdown, I thought it would be a good time to step back, catch our breath, and see how far we've come.  It's been a little over a year, and 47 episodes are now in the books with 89 still to go.  We started off with a few slapstick stinkers, and those quickly gave way to some weak yet ever-so-slightly redeemable episodes that were still a bit of a chore to watch.  Then we got into the neutral episodes which were neither good nor bad, and finally the watchability factor increased to the current point where I am genuinely excited to watch the next episode.

The last 6 episodes reviewed (#95 - #90)  have been pretty solid and form a nice bridge to the top 89. Now we're getting to the really good stuff and will be there until we get to 60, when we get to the really, really good stuff.  Then it's up to 40, when we get to the GREAT stuff.  Then it's up to 20, when we start seeing the classics.  Then it's on to the top 10, where we get into the Pantheon, the 10 best episodes of the best show ever made.  Then it's on to Number 1, the finest hour of television transcendence.  Unfortunately you'll likely have to wait a few years before we get to #1, but that's not so bad when you have great MacGyver episodes to help you pass the time!

I went back and looked at reader Mark's rankings just to see how they matched with mine so far. I found that of the 47 episodes already reviewed, he had only 4 of them in his top 25, so in that respect our rankings have been fairly consistent.  I look forward to seeing the rest of his top 25 and how it compares to mine.

So thank you for accompanying me on this ride, and let's have a good time on the next leg of the journey!

  1. As a UK MacGyver fan I'm enjoying your blog immensely and like your thoughtful and often amusing analysis, although don't always agree with the rankings! eg The Escape and To be a Man are amongst my favourites. Looking forward to the next installment!
